Heat pump rebates
So far, 146 members have
taken advantage of our rebates
for conversion from gas heating
to an electric heat pump. We
are rebating $150 per TON of
heating/cooling capacity and have had this program
going since 1998. We suggest that if you do this
conversion, you install at least a 12.0 SEER unit or
better. Contact your heating and cooling contractor
for more information.
Power cost
As of this date, the cost of power has been
slightly lower than expected through August. We
anticipate this trend to carry through to the end of
the year. If that happens, the power cost
adjustment should result in a credit for
September-through-December billing.
With this having been an extremely hot
summer, we could all use a little break,
and we hope this provides some relief.
Reliability of service
This has also been a pretty good year for mini-
mum storm damage. We've had some lightning and
wind, but so far, no threats from hurricanes or trop-
ical storms. We are continuing our maintenance
programs to minimize the outage time and frequen-
cy. Our outage-management system has also helped
in the recovery time,
and we will continue
to seek ways to
improve in this area
because we know it is very important to all
our members.
Operation Round Up
This is a program that many EMCs participate in
to help their communities, but we have not yet
adopted it. Operation Round Up works by rounding
up each member's elec-
tric bill to the next dollar,
with the extra change
being set aside for com-
munity projects such as
scholarships, school pro-
grams, fire department equip-
ment and other fundraisers. By
rounding up the bill, each member typically donates
about $6 per year, per meter for these causes. The
round-ups, or donations, are voluntary for each
member and not required if Middle Georgia EMC
participates in the program. The fund disbursements
are administered by a separate foundation board
that receives no remuneration of services.
Based on this quick description, please give me
your feedback by e-mailing to mgemc@sowega.net
with the subject: Operation Round Up. Let me know
if you are for or against this program and why.
